چکیده

Electron yields from clean and oxydized Inconel 625 surfaces have been measured for H', H:, Hef, 0' and Ar+ ions at normal incidence in the energy range 1.5-40 keV. These measurements have been made under ultrahigh vacuum and the samples were freed of surface contaminants by bombarding with high doses of either 20 keV H l or 30 keV Ar+ ions. Differences in yields of oxydized versus clean surfaces are explained in terms of differences in the probability that electrons internally excited escape upon reaching the surface.

Transmission Electron Microscopy Sample Preparation of INCONEL 738 Nickel-Base Superalloy

Size, shape, volume fraction and distribution of embedded g/ phase in g phase has direct effect on strength of INCONEL alloy. Microstructure parameters of INCONEL phases are quantified from microstructure images using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Different TEM sample preparation techniques were used to study INCONEL 738 alloy microstructure for transmission electron micros...

Identification of mechanisms of ion induced electron emission by factor analysis

Introducing the use of the Factor Analysis method to analyze electron emission spectra we identify different mechanisms for electron emission from clean Al surfaces under bombardment by Ar and Li ions. The analysis of the energy electron emission distributions and their dependence on incoming ion energy allows separation of the direct contribution of Auger neutralization from that of plasmon de...

Simulation of the cathode surface damages in a HOPFED during ion bombardment

Most vacuum devices are hampered by ion bombardment due to residual gases. Sometimes, it causes the breakdown of devices and shortens their life. In this article, the effect of the ion bombardment on the cathode surface in a structure of a field emission display was simulated. In this structure, a special type of spacer was used, named “hop” and “flu” spacer. The trajectories of electrons emitt...

The Effect of Gas Ion Bombardment on the Secondary Electron Yield of TiN, TiCN and TiZrV Coatings For Suppressing Collective Electron Effects in Storage Rings

In many accelerator storage rings running positively charged beams, multipactoring due to secondary electron emission (SEE) in the beam pipe will give rise to an electron cloud which can cause beam blow-up or loss of the circulating beam. A preventative measure that suppresses electron cloud formation is to ensure that the vacuum wall has a low secondary emission yield (SEY). The SEY of thin fi...

Predicting Kinetic Electron Emission in Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Sputtering†

We present a molecular dynamics (MD) based computer simulation model for particle bombardment of metal surfaces. In addition to the description of the atomic collision cascade initiated by the particle impact, our model incorporates the electronic degree of freedom of the target and therefore is capable of simultaneously predicting secondary ion formation in sputtering as well as ion-bombardmen...
